Why recharge is so beneficial for your wellbeing.

 

Recharge is more than what meets the eye. It’s a benefit offered by some companies to ensure everyone gets regular time off. After a year of taking quarterly recharges, the wellbeing benefits are clear to me. Getting regular time off to play, learn, connect and enjoy life makes the everyday demands of work and life feel easier. It’s done wonders for my work-life balance.

 

Four benefits of quarterly recharges

 

1/ The ability to truly unplug

 

Most people don’t take the full amount of vacation time allotted because it places an additional burden on them to do more in less time and/or burdens others who need to cover them. In short, it’s hard to take vacation time and even harder to completely unplug. Recharge removes the burdens because everyone is out of the office and unplugged. 

 

2/ The time to reconnect with loved ones  

 

Our lives are busier than ever with work and family demands. It’s no wonder most people are constantly seeking the secret to work-life balance. Unfortunately, there isn’t one solution but a quarterly recharge helps to rebalance competing priorities. It gives you quality time to connect with your partner, your family, your friends and/or your community and to nurture those relationships. Quality time can make up for quantity especially when quality time happens every quarter.

 

3/ The time to invest in your career or plan your next chapter

 

Most people will have more than one career in their lifetime. Having dedicated time to explore your ideas, invest in your skillset or hone your craft is more important than ever because we are living longer and need to be working longer. Investing time now will make it easier to chart a new path forward when an inflection point appears on your career path.

 

4/ The time to declutter, organize and catch up

 

Recharge is also about doing things for your mental health such as cleaning out your closet, shredding old papers, donating unused items and taking care of the administrative things on your to-do list. Admittedly, it’s not as exciting as a big trip but it feels good. Decluttering, organizing and catching up on tasks makes you feel lighter and better. If you have the time and resources, take a short trip to end your recharge on a high note.
