Eat good food most days without spending a fortune.
Knowing what to eat for good health gets harder all the time. Continuing our quest to put a little joy back into cooking and to make eating healthy easier, we’d like to share a few more resources with you.
Ten things that you should have on hand. We love this list because it makes it easy to figure out what you need for the week to keep your kitchen stocked with good food. With these basics on hand, creating something that tastes good is easy.
Cooking without recipes. If you don’t consider yourself much of a cook, don’t worry about it. The Whole Foods Cookbook has a bunch of things that you can make without following a complicated recipe. Good food tastes good without doing much to it.
Three tips for eating healthy foods:
1/ Be adventurous with your greens.
Mix things up so that your diet doesn’t become boring. Just like anything else you do over and over, eating the same thing all the time is less satisfying. If you love eating salad use spinach rather than mixed greens or mix them together. Skip the salad once in a while and try sautéed swiss chard or another green leafy vegetable. All of them have different flavors and textures.
2/ Incorporate the “super” foods.
Cabbage might not come to mind as a “super” food because it’s rather tasteless and cheap unlike the more commonly touted super foods, but it contains nutrients that you body needs to support memory. There is something super nutritious about all produce so enjoy them all.
3/ Manage your food budget.
Salmon, sardines, walnuts, chia seeds, green vegetables and some vegetable oils are all good options for Omega 3s at different price points. You might have to expand your pallet to get the essential nutrients from food, but the health benefits make it worth your effort. Health is Wealth.
